Site and context

Listed buildings and development site extending to 0.29 hectare (0.72 acres) situated on Middle Abbey Street just off O'Connell Street in the heart of Dublin City Centre. Adjacent to many third level institutions, excellent public transport and city centre amenities.

Proposals

Regeneration and adding to existing historic buildings formerly the HQ of Independent Newspapers by creating a new student housing community on this important city centre street. Proposal to animate and add to the streetscape with the addition of retail accommodation at ground floor level.

Current Status 

Full Planning Permission granted by Dublin City Council in July 2025 for the preservation and reuse of the existing buildings and the addition of new PBSA to the rear, including a total of 316 bedrooms with additional cultural and Retail accommodation. It is expected that construction will commence on this important project in 2026, adding a significant contribution to the rejuvenation of this important city centre street.
